Fred Thompson will officially file his papers with the FEC as a candidate for President on September 6th 2007. He will announce his candidacy via webcast then begin a multi-state barnstorming tour of the early primary states.

Robert Novak is reporting on Human Events that Fred Thompson is planning on announcing his intentions for a White House bid through a video, followed by a barnstorming tour stopping at several cities.  This strategy was advised to him by none other than Newt Gingrich, who has said he will support Fred Thompson if he runs.  Look for more attacks on Fred as he prepares to make his entrance into the race.

On the Republican side, Thompson, not yet an official candidate, had the support of 22 percent of S.C. GOP voters, followed by former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani at 18 percent. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was third with 17 percent and U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona was fourth with 11 percent.
The Republican results have a margin of error of 3.6 percentage points.Here are the full results of both polls.
