“The Connecticut Republicans, down to one seat in Congress after 2006 election losses, cheered when Thompson told them: “I think the biggest problem we have today is what I believe is the disconnect between Washington, D.C., and the people of the United States. People are looking around at the pork barrel spending and the petty politics, the backbiting. The fighting over all things, large or small, is creating a cynicism among our people.” That cynicism, Thompson contends, mandates a different kind of campaign for 2008.”

Fred Dalton Thompson is planning to enter the presidential race over the Fourth of July holiday, announcing that week that he has already raised several million dollars and is being backed by insiders from the past three Republican administrations, Thompson advisers told The Politico.(Fred Thompson running for president - Politico.com)

NASHVILLE - A national co-chairwoman of Mitt Romney’s Republican presidential campaign is leaving to join another potential candidate.

Tennessee Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn is swinging her support from the former

Massachusetts governor to the as-yet unannounced White House bid of actor-politician Fred Thompson.

Blackburn served as a senior adviser to the Romney campaign and as national co-chairwoman of Women for Romney.
She cites her long association with Thompson, a fellow Tennessee Republican, as the reason for supporting him.
