I made the trip this past weekend up to
Cookeville
TN for the first Fred Thompson Rally for President.
I was overly impressed that such a large crowd showed up in a little town to support a guy who is not even an announced candidate!
The organizers did a heck of a job putting everything together.
Over 500 people showed up throughout the day during the rally from all over the county. I met several other fellow Georgians who are very excited about doing a rally of our own in
Georgia (stay tuned for more).
During the day the audience heard from Congressman Zack Wamp who is traveling the county raising support from conservative leaders for Thompson. He gave an impassioned speech for why Fred is the right man for the job.
The Missouri State House Speaker Pro Tem Carl Beardenalso spoke and said that over 60% of the Republican legislators have committed to back Fred Thompson as soon as he enters the race.
The thing that has impressed me the most is how the following for Thompson has been from the bottom up instead of top down. What I mean is that the momentum has come from the grassroots and common citizens verses political consultants and egos. Thompson has never expressed any interest in running nor had any ambition to until he was asked to, much like Ronald Reagan.
It truly was a blessing to meet fellow Americans at the rally from all over the county who are full of optimism and energy, who still believe that
America is the last bastion of hope for freedom and democracy.
I truly believe that this is the beginning of something big.
Stay tuned…..

That is what the Telegraph is saying. Fred Thompson is not only getting members of Reagan’s inner circle on his team, but also getting the support of a fundraising powerhouse.
As deputy chief of staff, Michael Deaver was a key member of the “troika” of aides who kept the Reagan White House on track. With the chief of staff James Baker and special assistant Ed Meese, he was the master of image and presentation.Mr Deaver’s intervention is significant. He is very close to Mr Reagan’s widow, Nancy, and is seen as the keeper of the Reagan flame.
Clark Judge, a White House speechwriter for Mr Reagan, said: “Fred Thompson, like Ronald Reagan, is a man of tremendous substance. There is a sense in the party that none of the candidates is quite ‘it’.”Mr Reagan, he said, had “embodied the mission of the party - entrepreneurial growth, limited government and a strong national defence. Whoever can bring that mission into this age will be the nominee. And it may be Fred Thompson.” Roger Stone, who was a Reagan campaign strategist, said: “The president Americans want is, in fact, the guy they see on Law and Order: wise, thoughtful, deliberative, confident without the cockiness of George W Bush, urbane yet country. Fred Thompson communicates all those virtues.”
On Friday Mr. Thompson will address the 45th annual dinner of the Lincoln Club, which is billed as the “largest and most active political club in the United States.” The invitation was one that other Republican candidates had tried to secure.
The club includes some of California’s richest businessmen - a necessity if you need to raise $20 million quickly in order to compete with Mr Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney. The club found $100,000 for the 2003 campaign to oust
California’s Democrat governor, Gray Davis, which helped Arnold Schwarzenegger into the post.
The significance of the Lincoln Club dinner on Friday cannot be overstated as this spot was heavily sought after by the other main candidates.

Here is another great article that was in Human Events yesterday on Fred Thompson by Roger Stone. He makes a great case for why Fred is the man of the hour, much like Reagan was during the 80s.
“Near the end of his successful first term, Ronald Reagan was asked whether he thought his training as an actor had prepared him for the job of the Presidency. Reagan replied, “I don’t see how any fellow that wasn’t an actor could do this job.” That is because Reagan understood that the single most important quality a successful President must bring to the job is a sense of confidence, balance, resolve and optimism.”
